Mungindi Central School receiving their Yamaha Prize

Throughout 2005 Yamaha Music Australia sponsored the Reading is Music to My Ears Scholastic Australia Reading Rocks Book Fair. As part of the sponsorship, Yamaha Music Australia donated the major prize package consisting of a range of musical instruments valued at a massive $20,000rrp.

Participating schools were required to host a Book Fair and hold a family event to be eligible to go into the draw to win the prize pack.

Mungindi Central School won the major prize. Mungindi, for those of you who don’t know lies across the border between Queensland and New South Wales with many of the town’s facilities lying in one state or the other. Mungindi Central School provides pre-school, primary and secondary education and has 101 students. Mungindi Central School didn’t have the resources for a music program but now thanks to Scholastic and Yamaha the school will be able to make music a greater part, if not the focus, of their curriculum.
