Kool Skools

Kool Skools provides an opportunity for secondary school students to step outside the traditional school environment and into a professional workplace. Kool Skools is not a competition or “battle of the bands”. The program’s main objective is to enhance individual student creativity and to encourage collaboration with industry professionals including engineers, graphic artists and multimedia specialists.

Rather than being a one off project to be completed within the studio, Kool Skools is designed to motivate students all year round. Students spend the year developing their songwriting and general performance skills, artwork and media design.

Access to state of the art equipment, musical instruments and cutting edge software enables students to undertake the recording, CD artwork, digital stills and music video.

An ARIA style end of year Awards Night judged by leading industry figures celebrates the year’s achievements, while also providing a further professional training ground for many who get to perform at this major event.

Yamaha Music Australia plays an integral part in this project by supplying the recording studios with drum kits, guitars, bass guitars, grand pianos, power amps and Paiste cymbals, to ensure the students are playing the best instruments available. Yamaha supports the awards nights held in Melbourne and Sydney by supplying the backline for top bands to perform with.

Yamaha Music Australia has a commitment to supporting up and coming talent in Australia and has been involved with this project for over four years.
