Colin Philpott
Colin is one of Sydney's busiest trombonists delivering his doubling abilities for theatre, studio work, television and ensembles of various sizes backing Australian and International artists including Frank Sinatra, Michael Crawford, Natalie Cole, Sammy Davis Jr, Jerry Lewis, The Gypsy Kings, Richard Marx, Wayne Newton, Debbie Reynolds, Michael Buble and Australian Idol.
In the studio he has played on over 75 CDs and is credited to countless TV themes and jingles ranging from Network News themes to McDonalds and Tip Top muffins! He is a first call player for leading audio production companies such as SongZu, Fresh Music and Whitenoise. Motion Picture soundtracks include Australia, Bootmen, South Pacific, and Moulin Rouge, being a featured Soloist in The Quiet American and featuring heavily on Silverchair's breakthrough recording, Diorama. In 2005 he literally was James Morrison's trombone section on James's release "The Gospel Collection" covering all trombone parts alongside his old friend and fellow Yamaha Artist, trumpeter Paul Panichi. He has performed in 29 Australian Theatre Productions between 1989 and 2009.
He is a former Head of Trombone at the Australian Institute of Music and has conducted Master Classes for Pan Pacific Music Camps and several other secondary school music programs. Colin is also actively involved in the development and mentoring of young brass players entering the profession from the N.S.W Conservatorium of Music and other interstate sources.
